Privacy policy

Personal Data Redactor (browser extension). Last updated November 4, 2026.

Who we are

The extension is made by Zeke V. Holt (“we”). Contact: hi@zvh.io.

What the extension does

It hides personal details in the messages you send to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, and shows them again in the replies. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no payments, no analytics and no servers of ours. Everything it does with your text happens on your device, and we never receive it.

What it reads

  • The text you type into the message box on chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com and grok.com, and the replies those sites show you.
  • It does nothing on any other website.
  • It reads nothing until you have accepted a short notice, shown when you install it, that explains what it does.

What leaves your device

  • To the chatbot you are using: your message, with the personal details it found replaced by placeholders such as [PERSON_K7X2]. Anything it did not detect is sent as you typed it. The chatbot’s own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
  • One-time setup download: the first time you use it, the extension downloads a static data file (about 65 MB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) that it needs to recognise names, companies and places. The request carries no information about you or your messages beyond what any web request includes, such as your IP address. The file is then kept in your browser.

Nothing else is transmitted. We do not sell, share or transfer your data, and we do not use it for advertising or any purpose unrelated to the extension’s single purpose.

What is stored on your device

  • The placeholder list: a list linking each placeholder to the real detail it replaced, so earlier chats can still be restored when you reopen them. It contains the personal details the extension has hidden.
  • Your Protect / Unprotect choices: the words you asked it to always protect or never protect, which can be names.
  • Settings: whether it is on, where you placed the on-page status pill, and that you accepted the first-run notice.

The placeholder list and your Protect / Unprotect choices are stored encrypted, with a key the browser holds for the extension and does not let anything export. This protects the stored data if someone copies your browser’s files; it does not protect against someone using your unlocked browser. You can erase the placeholder list any time with “Clear saved details” in the extension’s popup, or by removing the extension. Earlier chats then show placeholders instead of your details.

Permissions

The extension can only run on the five chatbot sites above, plus the Hugging Face download. It does not read your browsing history and cannot see any other site.

Your rights

Because all of this stays on your device and we never receive it, we hold no personal data about you. If you have a question about this policy or your data, write to hi@zvh.io. You can also contact your data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).

Children

The extension is not directed to children under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
